Two hard core running events, the Go Ultra Events Insomnia 24 and National Forest Way 75, will return to The National Forest this summer and here at the National Forest Company we’re excited to help event organisers Go Ultra Events make it an even bigger and better year.
Go Ultra is an events company that has a passion for endurance events and the outdoors; pushing people to go beyond what they thought was possible. Their love for the outdoors makes for a great partnership with The National Forest, so much so that they have pledged to donate a small portion of every entry fee to support us in creating a forest for all to enjoy.
Wayne Busby, Director of Go Ultra Events, has many strings to his bow, or should we say laces to his trainers… Not only is he a qualified personal trainer and nutritionist with a Running England coaching badge, he is also a keen sportsman, outdoors enthusiast and dad to his two year old twin girls.
In 2007, a good friend of Wayne’s passed away from cancer, and this prompted his involvement in endurance based events. To raise money for the local hospice that had cared for his friend, Wayne cycled from Lands’ End to John O’Groats. “From then on, I started undertaking various challenges and found a real passion for endurance based events (especially ultra-running). My weekends consist of long training runs, and I just love the buzz of ultra-distance events and I launched Go Ultra Events in 2016.
“I wanted to deliver events that I would want to do personally and make endurance events more accessible to all fitness levels and capabilities. This is why we offer at all our events, the option for solo entries, pairs or teams so everyone can experience it whether they run, jog or walk it.”
Wayne and his family spend a lot of time in the Forest; running in places like Bradgate Park, Beacon Hill and Thornton Reservoir. “It was actually during a family visit to Beacon Hill when I was reading the information board and looking at the map that the National Forest Way 75 was born!.”
And it doesn’t stop there! The Go Ultra team are looking to expand their portfolio. “We would like to hold a 10k/half marathon and a marathon in the Forest in 2018. Our long term plan is to hold an event every month from April to November by 2020.”
Wayne shows great passion for the Forest and clearly takes inspiration from the time he spends here, making it a great pleasure to work with him and his team. Here are the top three things that Wayne loves about the Forest:
We’ll be keeping up with the Go Ultra team as the Insomnia 24 and National Forest Way 75 get closer. Are you taking part in a Go Ultra event in the Forest? Why not tweet us and let us know why you’re taking part or what you love about the Forest.
GO LONG, GO HARD, GO ULTRA.
