Furnace Wood

This 5.3ha site was purchased by North West Leicestershire District Council from British Coal in 1996. It lies next to the historic Napoleonic blast furnace at Moira.

Approximately half of the wood is amenity woodland and ponds, with a mixture of ash, oak, Scots pine, silver birch, holly, elder and thorn. Natural regeneration is taking place among the existing woodland in open areas. The remainder of the site is agricultural grazing land. Three public footpaths cross the site and a stone path has been created through the wood to ease access.

Information on Moira Furnace is available on-site.
