Gresley Wood
A 46ha site on edge of Church Gresley incorporating a new public access woodland and a demonstration woodland plot showing tree establishment techniques on former poor quality farmland. The five demonstration plots illustrate:
- Creating oak forest using different 'nurse' crops
- Different ground preparation methods for planting
- Creating new native woodland
- Natural colonisation
- Effect of different tree spacing on growth and shape
Hepworth plc planted a new woodland around the demonstration plot under the Tender Scheme in 1995. They are coppicing the existing Swainspark wood to provide a variety of ages of trees and create open areas.
