Hill Close Copse

A 16ha Tender Scheme winner (in 1999 and 2003) on the edge of Coton in the Elms, this site adjoins a brook and, as a result, has a wet woodland theme.  This includes a sedge bed and a new wildlife pond with aquatic plants.  Wildflower meadows and open glades create habitat for insects and maintain views to the characteristic Mease churches.  Native black poplars, one of the priority species in the National Forest Biodiversity Action Plan, are scattered throughout the planting and the bankside trees have been coppiced or pollarded to improve the habitat for a variety of species.

A permissive footpath has been created to link the site to the adjacent Raddle Farm site.
