Manor Farm, Thornton

A 58ha Tender Scheme winner (in 2001) consisting of two blocks approximately a mile apart on the edge of Thornton.  The planting consists of 75% broadleaves such as ash, oak, field maple and wild cherry, and 25% conifers, mainly Scots pine, larch and Norway spruce.  An existing pond has been cleaned out and new wetland have been scapes created to provide wildlife habitats.  Bat and bird boxes have been erected in the mature trees to provide roosting and nesting sites.

Access has been greatly enhanced by the provision of a network of permissive and dedicated paths which link to the Leicestershire Round long distance path.
