Stretton/Eton Gateway

A 2.3 ha Tender Scheme winner in 1996, Stretton/Eton Gateway is a gateway to The National Forest alongside to the A38 in Burton upon Trent. 

The site's theme is butterflies and other wildlife.  A butterfly sculpture by the roadside is surrounded by 100 oak trees to commemorate the centenary of St Mary's Church, Stretton.  Approximately 3,000 native trees have been planted on the site, including 300 rare native Black Poplar.  The planting of Alder buckthorn, an uncommon species locally, is aimed at attracting Brimstone butterflies.  A new pond for amphibian breeding and a butterfly meadow complete the site.
