Windmill Hill

Windmill Hill is a 13.9ha woodland created by Leicestershire County Council adjacent to Beacon Hill County Park and Broombriggs Farm.  The site is in two parts, with one compartment adjacent to Lower Beacon Hill and other by Brombriggs Farm Trail.  Planting complements the existing Charnwood Forest landscape of broadleaves and Scots pine.  The trees have been grown from seed collected locally.  By Lower Beacon, direct seeding has been used to replicated the woodland/heathland habitat with heather and bilberry seed sown among the tree seed.

The surfaced cycle track extends the track created at West Beacon Fields in 2000.  The base of the old windmill on Windmill Hill has been restored.  The sails and mill tower were destroyed by fire in 1945.
