Hayes Park Wood

204 ha of new woodland, Ancient Woodland and grassland managed under Countryside Stewardship on the edge of Ticknall. At the time of its entry in 2002, this was the largest Tender Scheme that had ever been submitted.  This site has a range of ecological features: new woodland adjacent to existing ancient semi-natural woodland which is being managed sympathetically; neutral and acid grassland areas grazed for their floristic interest; an orchard; wood pasture; truffle field; ponds and other wetland habitats.  Deer fencing surrounds the site to protect the woodland from the local deer population.

It also has considerable archaeological interest with a Mediaeval deer ditch, ridge and furrow field patterns and a Mediaeval carp pond. An old water ram in the wood has also been restored and interpreted.

New access includes walking and riding routes and the local orienteering club will use the site for events. Camping and caravaning is also available.
