Windmill Wood

An 18.6ha Tender Scheme winner from 2000, Windmill Wood is situated opposite a previous scheme on the outskirts of Ticknall.  It is named after an old windmill which stood at the top of the site.  This was demolished in the 1600's and the area has been left as open ground.

Sweet chestnut and wild cherry are planted on the high ground to provide spring and autumn colour.  A viewing point has been left unplanted to retain the excellent views towards Ticknall.  The wetland area, planted with willow and alder, provides habitat for dragonflies and other invertebrates.
